“Oh, Capernaum,” said Jesus, “thou who exalted into heaven, will be brought down into hell. For, if the mighty works had been done in Sodom and Gomorrah, it’d have been standing to this day.” And Sodom, Gomorrah lays in the bottom of the Dead Sea.And Capernaum is in the bottom of the sea.

And while in there, Something struck me, and I didn’t know nothing for about thirty minutes. There was a prophecy went out. First thing I remember, Brother Mosley and Billy, I was out on the street, walking. And It said, “Thou Capernaum, which calls yourself by the name of the Angels,” that’s Los Angeles, city of angels, see, the angels, “which are exalted into heaven, will be brought down into hell. For, if the mighty works had been done in Sodom, that’s been done in you, it would have been standing till this day.” And that was all unconsciously, to me. See? And how I just got through exhorting, Christ, exalting Him and telling the church. I said, “You women, no matter how I try to come to you, or preach against these things; and you man, you preachers; you constantly conned all the time, do it just the same. You walk over It as if the Word of God wasn’t nothing.”

And when I understood that, I went, I said, “There is a Scripture about that somewhere.” And I went and found it was Jesus, rebuking Capernaum by the seacoast. That night I looked up the Scriptures. Come home, got the history book; and Sodom and Gomorrah was once a—a thriving city, a Gentile headquarters of the world. And you know, that city, by an earthquake, sank into the Dead Sea. And Jesus stood, and said, “Capernaum, if Sodom would have had the works done in it that you’ve had done in you, it would have been standing today. But now you must be brought down to hell!” And about two hundred or three hundred years after His prophecy, with all them coastal towns, every one of them still standing but Capernaum, and it lays in the bottom of the sea. An earthquake sunk it into the sea.

And it was Jesus rebuking Capernaum, all those coastal cities that He had visit. Why, He said, “Capernaum, thou art exalted into Heaven, will be brought down into hell.” He said, “For if the works had been done in Sodom and Gomorrah that’s been done in you, it’d been standing today.” And at that time, Sodom and Gomorrah was in the bottom of the sea. And just after that, maybe a hundred years or something, after Jesus’ prophecy, Capernaum, the only coastal city that He had visit, a earthquake sunk it in the sea. And you know that was a direct answer to California, to Los Angeles.

Because, God could not be just to judge those people and send them punishment, and sink Sodom and Gomorrah, and sink Capernaum in the middle of the sea, and condemn those generations, and Sodom and Gomorrah, and then let us do the same thing and get by with it.

I went out, and they told me what I said. And I listened, went back and searched the Scripture. You know, Jesus said, almost in them same words, about Capernaum; and Sodom and Gomorrah was—was in the bottom of the Dead Sea, I suppose was then. And later, about a hundred years later, Capernaum slid into the sea, and it’s in the sea. The same God that put Sodom in the sea for its sins, the same God that put Capernaum in the sea for its sins, the same God will put Los Angeles in the sea for its sin, that city of—of corruption.

William Branham stated numerous times that Capernaum was destroyed by an earthquake and sunk into the sea.

And Jesus stood, and said, “Capernaum, if Sodom would have had the works done in it that you’ve had done in you, it would have been standing today. But now you must be brought down to hell!” And about two hundred or three hundred years after His prophecy, with all them coastal towns, every one of them still standing but Capernaum, and it lays in the bottom of the sea. An earthquake sunk it into the sea. And then prophesying, “Los Angeles will be in the bottom of the sea.”

Capernaum was a fishing village of about 1,500 people on the northwestern shore of the Sea of Gallilee. Matthew 4:13 tells us that Jesus left Nazareth and went to live in Capernaum after his temptation in the wilderness.

In Matthew 8:14-16, we read that Jesus healed Peter’s mother-in-law while in Capernaum and Mark 2:1-12 tells of a paralyzed man who was healed in Capernaum after his friends lowered him through the roof.

Capernaum is now a tourist attraction in nothern Israel. Notably, there is a small church there built on top of the supposed remains of the house where Peter lived. I visited Capernaum in 2013 and it is definitely not at the bottom of the sea. But message minister Tim Pruitt of Louisiana didn’t check the facts. Here is the result of his bad research:

"...and Capernaum is in the bottom of the sea."

This is simply not true. And I’m not the only one who has been to Capernaum. Here is Donny Reagan from Johnson City, Tennessee, contradicting William Branham and Ron Spencer:

"...and seen... we seen not long ago at the city of Capernaum. And they dug down so many feet down below of the surface of the earth there. And there were gigantic stones that had been hewed out. And they dated back to the very original synagogue that the Lord Jesus was thrown out of in Capernaum.

More importantly, William Branham used his fabricated story of the sinking of Capernaum as a basis for his prophecy that Los Angeles would also sink to the bottom of the sea.

“Oh, Capernaum, thou who callest yourself by the name of the angels, Los Angeles!” See what’s happening? She is going right on to the bottom of the sea.”

If William Branham was completely wrong about Capernaum, why would he be right about the sinking of Los Angeles?

If the basis of his prophecy was false, why would his prophecy be true?
