    Prophecy falls into two main categories: Prophecy about someone else, and prophecy about you.  The first category stands as a supernatural witness to identify someone as a true prophet.  The second category is a whole other story.  For example, [[William Branham]]'s prophecy that Los Angeles will sink into the Pacific Ocean is not going to directly impact someone living in Budapest.  However, someone in Los Angeles who learns of this prophecy will have to make a concious decision to believe or disbelieve the prophecy - and then either move or stay, accepting the consequences of either decision. 
    During his life, William Branham claimed to have a number of visions and prophecies.  The visions were a guide to his own ministry, and a source of discernment of other people's lives.  The prophecies were given to warn people of God's coming judgement.  This article contains a number of William Branham's prophecies and visions, including the historic fulfilment or failure of these prophecies.   
     
    In the Bible, the purpose of prophecy was greater than the events prophecied: it was to pronounce Divine judgement, direction, or mercy.  The teachings of Biblical prophets were also seen as sacred, as a prophet could not proclaim true and false teaching - i.e. if God inspired their prophecy, he also inspired their doctrine.  Famous prophets include Moses, Elijah, Isaiah, [[Paul]], and John.

    One issue in recognizing these prophecies as authentic is that William Branham's recorded sermons are the only source as to their accuracy and timing.  This presents a problem as William Branham often included facts when describing these prophecies that are historically inaccurate.  It is known that William Branham kept a book of his prophecies<ref> Souls That are in Prison Now, November 10, 1963</ref>; however, the contents of this book have never been released to the public.

    Prophecy is the foretelling of future events by a human messenger (prophet) under divine inspiration.

    During his life, William Branham claimed to have a number of visions and prophecies. The visions were a guide to his own ministry, and a source of discernment of other people's lives. The prophecies were given to warn people of God's coming judgement. This article contains a number of William Branham's prophecies and visions, including the historic fulfilment or failure of these prophecies.
