Is there evidence that any of William Branham's visions failed or that his prophecies weren't valid? Is there proof that he lied?
Message followers often tell us that they will not look at the evidence because they have been called to "only believe".
But what does the Bible say we should look at?

=Evidence related to William Branham's claim that he was a prophet=
William Branham clearly claimed to be a prophet:
:''To my precious dear brothers and sisters (See?), all of you, as a servant of God… I never said this before in the wor-… in—in this church, I've never said, but '''as a prophet of the Lord, I say to you''', "This is the Light; walk ye in It."<ref>61-0813 - Faith</ref>
Furthermore, he believed that he was [[William Branham's View of Himself#He said he was an Old Testament Prophet in the New Testament|a prophet in the Old Testament sense]].
The scriptural test of a prophet in the Old Testament is detailed in Deuteronomy 18:
:''But if any prophet presumes to speak anything in my name that I have not authorized him to speak, or speaks in the name of other gods, that prophet must die. Now if you say to yourselves, ‘How can we tell that a message is not from the LORD?’—18:22 whenever a prophet speaks in my name and the prediction is not fulfilled, then I have not spoken it; the prophet has presumed to speak it, so you need not fear him.”<ref>Biblical Studies Press, The NET Bible First Edition; Bible. English. NET Bible.; The NET Bible (Biblical Studies Press, 2005), Dt 18:20–22.</ref>
While at first we found this almost impossible to believe, '''we have been unable to locate a single unambiguous prophecy that was made in advance in a public forum (on tape) and that was later clearly fulfilled.''' However, there are numerous examples of visions that were made publicly which failed (were not fulfilled) and prophecies that changed drastically over time. If you click on the individual lines below, they will take you to a detailed explanation of each issue.

Mark Twain once said, '''"If you tell the truth, you don't have to remember anything."'''
The Bible plainly tells us in Titus and 1 Timothy what is expected of Christian leaders:
:''An elder must be blameless...<ref>Titus 1:6 (NET)</ref>
:''For the overseer must be blameless as one entrusted with God’s work...<ref>Titus 1:7 (NET)</ref>
:''The overseer then must be above reproach...<ref>1 Timothy 3:2 (NET)</ref>
:''And these also must be tested first and then let them serve as deacons if they are found blameless.<ref>1 Timothy 3:10 (NET)</ref>

=Evidence that William Branham taught things that were not in scripture=
William Branham stated that the Bible was to be our absolute and that we were to follow it:
:''That’s God in His Scripture. We try to stay strictly with the Bible. And that’s the only Foundation that I know of, friends, is that is God’s Word. And as long as it’s based upon God’s Word, then God will be behind it and confirm His Word. See?<ref>William Branham, 52-1027 - Jesus Christ The Same Yesterday, Today, And Forever, para. 6</ref>
:''Apostolic Faith means “the Faith of the apostles.” That’s what apostolic faith means, that you stay with the Bible.<ref>William Branham, 61-1015M - Questions And Answers, pare. 142</ref>
And it’s got to come to '''one final absolute, and my absolute is the Word, the Bible'''. And as a pastor here of the church, my absolute is the Word, and I want…'''I know you, our brothers, you kind of look to me to be your absolute to what…as long as I follow God as Paul said in the Scripture''', “You follow me, as I follow Christ.”<ref>William Branham, 63-1226 - Church Order, pare. 6</ref>
William Branham agreed that we should only follow him, if he followed the Bible.

Is there evidence that any of William Branham's visions failed or that his prophecies weren't valid? Is there proof that he lied?
Message followers often tell us that they will not look at the evidence because they have been called to "only believe".
But what does the Bible say we should look at?
What the Bible says about evidence
The bible clearly talks about the value of evidence.
Luke focused on evidence as proof the Gospel was true
The whole purpose of Luke's writings were to provide proof:
Luke 1:1-5:
- Inasmuch as many have undertaken to compile a narrative of the things that have been accomplished among us, just as those who from the beginning were eyewitnesses and ministers of the word have delivered them to us, it seemed good to me also, having followed all things closely for some time past, to write an orderly account for you, most excellent Theophilus, that you may have certainty concerning the things you have been taught. [1]
Acts 1:1-3 (written by Luke):
- In the first book, O Theophilus, I have dealt with all that Jesus began to do and teach, until the day when he was taken up, after he had given commands through the Holy Spirit to the apostles whom he had chosen. He presented himself alive to them after his suffering by many proofs, appearing to them during forty days and speaking about the kingdom of God.[2]
Acts 9:22-23 (Paul provided proof to the Jews):
- Saul’s preaching became more and more powerful, and the Jews in Damascus couldn’t refute his proofs that Jesus was indeed the Messiah.[3]
Jesus said we should look at the evidence
In John 14:11, the need to look at the evidence is clear:
- Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or at least believe on the evidence of the works themselves.[4]
The need for 2-3 witnesses is required as evidence
Jesus outlined the requirement in Matthew 18:16:
- ...take one or two others along with you, that every charge may be established by the evidence of two or three witnesses.[5]
Paul made the requirement clear in 2 Corinthians 13:1:
- Every matter must be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses.[6]
Paul also made the point clear in his instructions to Timothy in 1 Tim. 5:19-20:
- Do not admit a charge against an elder except on the evidence of two or three witnesses. As for those who persist in sin, rebuke them in the presence of all, so that the rest may stand in fear.[7]
William Branham clearly claimed to be a prophet:
- To my precious dear brothers and sisters (See?), all of you, as a servant of God… I never said this before in the wor-… in—in this church, I've never said, but as a prophet of the Lord, I say to you, "This is the Light; walk ye in It."[8]
Furthermore, he believed that he was a prophet in the Old Testament sense.
The scriptural test of a prophet in the Old Testament is detailed in Deuteronomy 18:
- But if any prophet presumes to speak anything in my name that I have not authorized him to speak, or speaks in the name of other gods, that prophet must die. Now if you say to yourselves, ‘How can we tell that a message is not from the LORD?’—18:22 whenever a prophet speaks in my name and the prediction is not fulfilled, then I have not spoken it; the prophet has presumed to speak it, so you need not fear him.”[9]
While at first we found this almost impossible to believe, we have been unable to locate a single unambiguous prophecy that was made in advance in a public forum (on tape) and that was later clearly fulfilled. However, there are numerous examples of visions that were made publicly which failed (were not fulfilled) and prophecies that changed drastically over time. If you click on the individual lines below, they will take you to a detailed explanation of each issue.

Evidence that William Branham lied
Mark Twain once said, "If you tell the truth, you don't have to remember anything."
The Bible plainly tells us in Titus and 1 Timothy what is expected of Christian leaders:
- An elder must be blameless...[10]
- For the overseer must be blameless as one entrusted with God’s work...[11]
- The overseer then must be above reproach...[12]
- And these also must be tested first and then let them serve as deacons if they are found blameless.[13]
William Branham portrayed himself as a simple, honest, uneducated man who was sent from God as a prophet to fore-run the second coming of Christ. Evidence that William Branham taught things that were not in scripture
William Branham stated that the Bible was to be our absolute and that we were to follow it:
- That’s God in His Scripture. We try to stay strictly with the Bible. And that’s the only Foundation that I know of, friends, is that is God’s Word. And as long as it’s based upon God’s Word, then God will be behind it and confirm His Word. See?[14]
- Apostolic Faith means “the Faith of the apostles.” That’s what apostolic faith means, that you stay with the Bible.[15]
And it’s got to come to one final absolute, and my absolute is the Word, the Bible. And as a pastor here of the church, my absolute is the Word, and I want…I know you, our brothers, you kind of look to me to be your absolute to what…as long as I follow God as Paul said in the Scripture, “You follow me, as I follow Christ.”[16]
William Branham agreed that we should only follow him, if he followed the Bible.
